An Anti-Human Trafficking training session was held on May 6, 2025, in East Baromari, a remote hilly border village under Haluaghat Deanery, predominantly inhabited by the Garo community. Due to its location and demographics, the area is considered vulnerable to trafficking.
Mrs. Hanna Usha Chambugong, Program Coordinator, facilitated the session, explaining the various forms and signs of trafficking. Her use of both Garo and Bengali languages engaged participants deeply, especially local women who actively shared real-life stories, underscoring the urgent need for preventive action.
Program Director Mr. Suvojit Mondal warned against fraudulent job offers that often serve as traps for traffickers, especially targeting children and vulnerable individuals.
The event was attended by Rev. Benedict Vhanu Chanu Chisim, Dean of Haluaghat Deanery, along with local priests, catechists, Education Coordinator Anima Rema, and Project Manager Sudarshan Mankhin.
A four-day Training of Trainers (ToT) and Planning Meeting was held in Mymensingh from May 6–9, 2025, aiming to build a skilled team within the Church of Bangladesh to combat human trafficking in their communities.
The training was graced by Rt. Rev. Samuel Sunil Mankhin, Moderator of the Church of Bangladesh, and Bishop Hemen Halder of Kushtia Diocese, alongside church leaders, catechists, and health workers.
The Moderator, despite a tight schedule, attended and shared biblical insights, comparing Joseph’s betrayal to modern trafficking, emphasizing the Church’s mission in addressing injustice. Bishop Halder explained trafficking dynamics, linking them metaphorically to the story of Adam and the deception he faced.
Rev. Jonerson Dio highlighted the biblical call to justice through the words of Prophet Micah, while Mr. Shanu Biswas used multimedia to stress the power of encouragement, comparing the early Church’s growth to today’s justice efforts.
Mrs. Hanna Usha presented the causes, consequences, and risks of trafficking in Bangladesh, and outlined how churches can support victims. Mrs. Jessica Halder delivered an uplifting message titled “Let’s Live,” reminding participants to care for their own well-being in order to serve others effectively.
Mr. Suvojit Mondal detailed the structure and function of anti-trafficking teams, recommending 15–20 members per team, led by Rev. Santi Mondol. He emphasized regular communication, awareness events, and quarterly Zoom meetings.
