The missionaries started working in the greater Mymensingh district as well as the area of Haluaghat deanery. However, because of the distance between Haluaghat and Modhupur which is nearly 100 Kilometers, it was then a long prayer of the church members of Modhupur area to have a separate deanery. Modhupur was declared a new deanery by Bishop Samuel S. Mankhin in 2019 aiming to take care of the Ecclesiastical/Pastoral care monitoring and other administrative facilities of the area. The church members also belong to the same Garo tribe. This area is well known to the other people as “Abima” (Mother land). Father M Chakraborty, Father Sushil Chattergy and Father Bhupal Sarker preached the Gospel of Christ in this area and many converted to Christianity from their religion “Sangsarek”. Father Kiron Marak and Sister Charu Sangma, came over from this land.
The Taize Brothers who have been living in Mymensingh will be moving to Thanarbaid in October 2021 to the land given for their use by the Church of Bangladesh from October 2021.
The deanery has 7 parishes with about 2000 members.
